Vivacious and gorgeous, Rima Kallingal sweeps fans off their feet with her 1,000-watt smile. Like many other beauty queens, the first runner-up Miss Kerala 2008, Ms Kallingal is waiting for the right moment to step on to the silver screen. "The runner-up title has opened a window of opportunities," Ms Kallingal told The Hindu. "I am game for anything that has creative potential."
Ms Kallingal stole the show at the Miss Kerala 2008 pageant by winning titles such as Miss Talented, Miss Photogenic, Miss Beautiful Eyes and Miss Voice.
The 21-year-old beauty wants to make her next move with a Malayalam movie. The excitement of winning the glamour contest is loud and clear in her voice. In a nail-biting finish, Ms Kallingal lost the Miss Kerala title to Shree Thulasi in a tie-breaker. A dancer by profession, Ms Kallingal has performed on national and international stages.
"Dance is my passion. I focus on Indian contemporary dance now. Though I am more comfortable with Bharathanatyam, Mohiniyattom and Kathak, training in Kalari and other martial arts gives more flexibility and scope of experimentation. I try to blend all these dance forms in my choreography," says Ms. Kallingal, who was also a semi-finalist in the popular television dance competition "Thakathimi".
Daughter of Asokan Kallingal, an engineer based in Thrissur, Ms Kallingal began her dance practice when she was in the first standard. As offers keep coming from the film industry, the "Miss Talented" with a cheerful face, bright eyes and sweet voice, is getting ready for a film career.
