One of the most awaited movies in 2009 of Vijay is ‘Vettaikaran’. The movie has actor Vijay and Anushka Shetty in the lead roles.

Vijay plays the role of an auto driver while actress Anuskha plays the role of a medical college student.

Vettaikaran’s story is based in unwanted elements that need to be removed from the society and the country. Vijay makes efforts to remove these elements one by one in the movie.

Vijay falls in love with Anushka, who comes from a middle class family. Both share a great chemistry and sparks can be seen flying in the air, whether it’s fighting or romancing. Initially both fight every now and then, but finally they fall in love.

“Five point someone” to ''3 Idiots'

This is supposed to be a lucky omen for the movie because Aamir Khan’s Taare Zameen Par and Ghajini were also released on December 25, 2007 and December 25, 2008, respectively.

3 Idiots, produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, stars R. Madhavan, Sharman Joshi, Boman Irani, Kareena Kapoor, and Mona Singh.

The movie is based on the bestseller Chetan Bhagat’s 5 Point Someone – What not to do at IIT. The movie has been shot in Ladakh, Delhi, shimla, Bangalore and Mumbai. The 20-day first schedule of 3 Idiots was completed in Ladakh and Shimla, and the second schedule has commenced in Bangalore, in the first week of January 2009. The last schedule of 3 Idiots will be shot in Mumbai.

The music of 3 Idiots has been composed by Shantanu Moitra, and the lyrics have been penned by Swanand Kirkire. The screenplay of 3 Idiots has been written by Abhijat Joshi, Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Rajkumar Hirani.

The movie is about three IIT students who cannot cope with a punishing grade system at IIT. They all have a 5-point grade they are constantly struggling to improve.

Kajol will appear in a cameo role in the movie. Both Shahrukh Khan and Kajol were supposed to play the leads in 3 Idiots. Both turned down the roles because of a conflict of dates with Karan Johar’s My Name is Khan, which will be released in November 2009.

Posters and photo stills of 3 Idiots had been released in November 2008. An intriguing poster, designed by Rahul Nanda, was a talking point for a bit. The tag line on the poster says Choose Excellence – Success will Follow.

Meanwhile, Aamir Khan is still riding the Ghajini wave. Ghajini’s produced Madhu Mantena has launched an Aamir Khan figurine modeled on his six-pack look in Ghajini.

Katrina discharged after appendicitis surgery

Actress Katrina Kaif has been discharged from Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital after undergoing an operation for appendicitis.

Katrina was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday morning with severe stomachache.

Salman Khan visited the actor in hospital twice on Wednesday. It is believed Salman stayed with her for more than three hours both in the morning and evening.

This isn't Katrina's first brush with illness in the recent past. Last month, she was hospitalised after being diagnosed with jaundice, leading to her missing out on the promotion of De Dana Dan.

Katrina in love with Pattinson

Twilight star Robert Pattinson has swept our own Bollywood beauty Katrina Kaif completely off her feet. And if all goes well she’ll be meeting Pattinson during her annual holiday with her family in London next week.

The minute Katrina’s eyes fell on Pattinson she got hooked to the Twilight quartet. “I went and bought all the four books Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn. I couldn’t put them down. I’ve been racing through the adventures of the hottest vampire Edward Cullen for the last one week. I finished reading three of the Twilight books in less than four days. Now I’m into the fourth. I just can’t get enough of him.”

And now Katrina wants to meet the real Edward Cullen. “You don’t understand. This is like an obsession for me. I can’t get Robert Pattinson out of my head. I see the love of my life in every object that moves or doesn’t move. I’ve never felt this way about any man before.”

Now a meeting between Bollywood’s blistering babe and Hollywood’s blood-thirsty heart-throb is discreetly being arranged. Though Katrina is not talking about it, her representatives are in touch with Robert Pattinson’s agent. It’s been made known to the global superstar that Bollywood’s eminently desirable Katrina Kaif would probably die of longing if the meeting doesn’t happen.

Says the besotted actress, “Obviously, I can’t stand under his window to get his attention. So yes, the meeting has to be more formal. He says he’s single. But I don’t believe him. That’s what they all say.”

Katrina unwell again

As her hemoglobin count continues to plummet, Katrina’s health is causing distress to all those who know her. Everyone around Katrina, well-wishers, co-stars, friends and family are beginning to be extremely worried about Katrina’s deteriorating health. On Sunday she was again at a suburban hospital to take further tests as her haemoglobin count continued to fall, despite treatment from the best doctors in the city. Though Katrina has been extremely selective recently about the appearances she makes, she is obviously still straining too much and it is affecting her adversely. On Sunday Katrina woke up unable to get out of bed. The worst blow to her frail energy level was the hectic wedding of Salman Khan’s close family-friend Krishan Narayan’s daughter which Katrina attended for two consecutive nights on Friday and Saturday for the sangeet and wedding. Forgetting her delicate health, Katrina had simply let herself go, dancing and having a good time. A friend explained, “It was a commitment she couldn’t wriggle out of. The bride’s father, an associate of politician Praful Patel, is a very close friend of Salman Khan. And Katrina who has always looked at Salman’s friends as her own, had to be there.” The result of two consecutive nights of merry-making was a relapse. On Sunday Katrina had to undergo a series of complicated medical tests that went on the whole day The friend continued, “Katrina’s haemoglobin count continues to plummet. The doctors are perplexed by this. They can’t figure out what is causing this abnormality in her blood. She has been prescribed complete bed rest.” When contacted, Katrina tried to dismiss her indisposition with. “I will be just fine. I just need to rest.”

Katrina is grounded!

Katrina Kaif’s taking it easy this year due to health reasons. But what the actress would have loved to do is take a break and travel. A friend of the actress says, “Katz loves exploring different places. She loves collecting souvenirs that remind her of that place. And more than the night life or partying she’s interested in knowing the customs and tradition of the place that she goes to.” Unfortunately for the actress, her recent health trouble has acted as a dampner on her travel plans.

Asin feels the Xmas spirit

The effervescent Asin Thottumkal, who hails from a Catholic family in Kerala, has three festivals marked out on her calendar each year. One is Onam, and the other two are Christmas and New Year.

“I’m usually home in Kerala for these festivals,’’ says Asin who has a palatial home in God’s own country. She remembers with fondness her schooling years when cousins, uncles and aunts arrived at their residence to put up the Christmas tree and then decorate it with jewels, gifts and lights. “We also put up a crib each year,’’ says the Bollywood star.

She can’t recall making any kalkals and marzipaan, but yes, food at the lunch table included a wide variety of cakes —because almost every aunt baked one; and also the best chicken and mutton dishes made in Malayali style. Asin herself is primarily vegetarian but, of course, she does partake in goodies occasionally.

“I’m upset I can’t go home for Christmas this year,’’ she says but she has planned her own little do here in her Mumbai home. “Christmas is not so much about parties for me,’’ says the actress, “but I do give ample importance to the spirit of the festival.

It is a time to remember the Lord and it also a time to spread the message of joy.”
Asin recalls how each year she got some plump uncle or cousin to dress as Santa Claus with all details — from the outfit to the beard and make-up in place. “We distributed gifts amongst ourselves,’’ she laughs. “I try my best not to shoot on Christmas because it is family time,’’ she adds. “However, sometimes things don’t go as planned.’’

While wishing all the readers of BT a Merry Christmas, the actress adds that this is one time of the year when she could break into a song because the spirit of the festival is absolutely infectious.

Aamir or Salman for Asin?

Asin the South Indian beauty has worked with two Khans - Aamir and Salman. Ask her to chose between them and she says, “You can’t expect me to choose between them. That’s not fair! You can’t compare them.

They are poles apart and yet similar. The common factor is that they are both genuine people. They don’t behave as per their image. But when it comes to work they are vastly different. Salman is more spontaneous, while Aamir likes to discuss every shot in detail. I am fortunate to know them both.”

Glamor!!! Kavya shies away...

Malluwood’s most adorable actress Kavya Madhavan is much loved for her simplicity and graceful demeanor. While many of her contemporaries have gone ahead to try their luck in various other south films, she is still glued religiously to Malayalam films.

This actress with an experience of over ten years in films has n
ever been spotted doing a crude act in any of her films. She has proved that skin-show isn’t the only way for garnering love and fame. Kavya is all set to try her luck in Kollywood for the second time with Siddhique’s ‘Saadhu Mirandaal’.

Kavya states, “I won't be acting in a glamorous or exposing role, even if they offer a crore for a film.” This proves that the actress is stepping into Kollywood not for glamour but for some serious acting.

She started her new film after marriage 'Pappi Appacha' with Dileep. She had a good hope of getting some good roles after this movie.

Trisha says 'No' to Kannada

There were rumours that because she liked the script, Trisha accepted the heroine's role in Kannada film Lagori with Puneeth Rajkumar in the lead, to be directed by Yograj Bhatt and to be shot in New Zealand.

Now, Trisha denied these rumours vehemently and clarified that the alleged news is not based on facts. She stated she is very busy in Tamil and Telugu and unable to find any dates to act in Kannada. For the time being, she is concentrating only in two South Indian languages, Tamil and Telugu.

Chattambinadu review

The story is set at a place called Chembattunadu, where two wealthy families have been fighting for several years. Both of them have sought the help of goons to fight against each other. Things get complicated when the goons take control of the whole area which results in Chembattunadu being renamed as Chattambinadu. The shooting of the film has been completed at Pollachi. Benny P Nayaramabalam, who scripted some of the big hits in the past like Kalyanaraman, Chanthupottu, Thommanum Makkalum, Chotta Mumbai and Annan Thampi among others, has scripted this one too.

Mammootty plays Vijendra Mallaya, who hails from a Kannada speaking area, but knows a little bit of Malayalam. With a stubble and clad in white outfits, Mallaya is a rich goonda, with several cases pending against him.

Siddique and Manoj K Jayan play feudal lords from rival families, who actually take care of the goondas. Vinu Mohan plays Mammootty's younger brother while Lakshmi Rai and Manikyam Maithily are the heroines.

But, it was said that the movie was somewhat a mix of many Mammootty films like 'Rajamanikyam,' 'Prajapathi', etc. Though all these are facts the movie is of an average. It was a Christmas release, and the movie was also a family entertainer.

Who ruled the Malluwood last year?

With the year 2006 ending, it’s time to review and look back at the year gone by. And the revelation is that Kavya Madhavan and Prithviraj ruled the roost last year and hogged the limelight. With this both of them also establishes their foothold at the Malayalam film industry. For Kavya Madhavan it has been a dream year, as she acted in half-a-dozen films and also bagged the biggest hit of the year with ‘Classmates’. The film affirms that she is currently the new queen of the industry. Along side Prithviraj she came up as a successful team, not to mention their onscreen chemistry, which is very striking. Prithviraj also tasted success with ‘Classmates’. Mammooty and Mohanlal had a few hits, but it was Prithviraj who hovered over them. He bagged accolades for his performance and also delivered hits teaming with director Padhmakumar. He also went ahead to establish himself in Tamil films s well. Now, she came back after her marriage as the heroine of Dileep through 'Christin brothers'.

Kavya the queen of Malluwood

Kavya Madhavan is undoubtedly the most popular and successful heroine in Malluwood at present. She rules the hearts of the people of Kerala. Believe it or not, most of the surveys reveal 70 percent voting for her. So, it is clear that she is the number one heroine in Malluwood at the moment.

This prolific actress started her acting career at a tender age of five with ‘Pookaalam Varavaayi’, directed by Kamal. She made debut as a heroine through Lal Jose’s second film ‘Chandranudikunna Dikkil’ with Dileep as her hero. She went on to do films like ‘Kochu Kochu Santhoshangal’, ‘Sahayathrikaykku Snehapoorvam’, ‘Madhuranombarakaattu’, ‘Darling Darling’ and ‘Dosth’. She has been staying at the top ever since grabbing the position through films like ‘Thenkasipattanam’, ‘Oomapenninu Uriyaadappayyan’ and the blockbuster ‘Meesha Madhavan’.

She is seen most of the time with Dileep but he has also acted with other actors like Mohanlal, Jayaram, Mammootty, Suresh Gopi, Jaysuriya, Kunchako Boban, Prithviraj and Indrajeet. Her patience has brought about great dividends. She has built her own empire in Malluwood while her counterparts left for other languages films. She crossed the 50-film mark with Lohithdas-directed ‘Chakkaramuththu’ and her last year’s release ‘Classmates’ was the biggest hit ever in the history of Malayalam cinema.

Her success story is not going to end here. She has the fire in her to go further. So, you can look forward to enjoy many more hit films from her in the years to come. But her family life has gone down. she had moved to court to get divorce from her husband.
